Mobile-IR
Each chemical substance has its own infrared signature, just like a finger print. With the Mobile-IR, it is easy to rapidly identify unknown samples, even under rough conditions. The Mobile-IR is a portable, compact and robust FT-IR spectrometer for substance identification. All components that are required for an FT-IR analysis like interferometer, ATR unit, data system and batteries are assembled into a rugged transport box allowing operation fully independent from any laboratory infrastructure. The measurement of any liquid or solid sample is performed without sample preparation using the diamond ATR sample interface. For the IR analysis only a little amount of substance (a drop of liquid or a few grains of powder) needs to be brought into contact with the diamond crystal. Liquid samples can be analyzed immediately; powdered samples are brought in close contact with the diamond by using the integrated pressure device before the measurement is started. | The user is guided through measurement and analysis by a dedicated software wizard for substance ID that is designed to be used under stress conditions. The large touch-screen of the Mobile-IR allows control by users wearing full protective gear. After the measurement the identification results are presented immediately together with the according NFPA hazard diamond and NIOSH data base information. The Mobile-IR comes with comprehensive spectra libraries for easy and quick identification of all types of unknown substances. Further commercial or user-made libraries can easily be added to the system. |
Proven Robustness
The Mobile-IR is a rugged portable FT-IR analyzer. The “RockSolid“- technology used in the interferometer has proven its performance in many thousand spectrometers used worldwide. Unlike a conventional flat mirror interferometer the RockSolid is permanently aligned. Zinc selenide (ZnSe), diamond and gold are the only optical materials used. These materials are inherently stable, resistant to moisture and adverse environmental influence.
The Mobile-IR is waterproof and protected against dust; it is approved to fulfill the international protection rating IP 67. It allows appropriate decontamination and cleaning by immersion in water or water jet.
Independent Operation
When started the Mobile-IR automatically checks the correct operation of all components and runs performance tests by analyzing internal reference standards. The Mobile-IR can be operated standalone using the embedded computer or by an external data system via LAN or WLAN. Two high power lithium-ion batteries allow up to 8 hours of continued operation. Empty batteries can be recharged in place by attaching the analyzer to an external power supply (100-240V, alternative 12V or 24V).
A large and bright touch-screen display with an application-specific graphical user interface guides the user through the operation of measurement and analysis. The user interface is designed to be used in full protective gear.
Reliable Measurement
The sensing ATR crystal is a pure diamond crystal which is brazed into the holding unit for maximal stability. The surface of the diamond is resistant to wear and tear. The surface of the diamond is contained in a bowl-shaped surface which allows the easy analysis of liquids by ATR spectroscopy. A pressure device brings solid samples into close contact with the surface of the diamond. This pressure device can easily be removed from the analyzer for easy decontamination or cleaning.
Analytical Performance
Recorded infrared spectra are analyzed automatically by comparison with extensive reference spectral data bases and the identification result is directly shown to the user. Spectral data and results are stored in a report. Linked to the identification result substance-specific information from the data-base of The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is loaded. The full International Chemical Safety Card of the respective substance can be viewed. Critical substance properties are displayed using the Hazard Diamond of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
Additionally a warning is displayed in case biological substances like microorganisms or proteins are detected.
